Most Wanted Awards

Established in 2001 and presented by leading industry magazine Creative HEAD, Most Wanted celebrates the most accomplished individuals, teams and businesses in British and Irish hairdressing. These are hair professionals who are not only pushing boundaries creatively and setting new consumer trends, but breathing life into local high streets and the wider economy with savvy displays of commercial innovation. The winners of Most Wanted are shining examples of why the UK beauty industry made an impressive £28.4 billion* contribution to GDP in 2018.

An impressive group of more than 50 independent judges deliberated over this year’s Most Wanted entries in order to determine the 2019 winners. Experts included Joely Walker, beauty & health director at Grazia, Sonia Haria, beauty director at Telegraph Group, Gemma Bellman, director of Europe at Glossier, session stylists Johnnie Sapong, Ken O’Rourke and Neil Moodie and talent agents from Premier Hair & Make-up, Streeters and The Wall Group.

Best Local Salon

This award recognises a salon that best serves its local community – providing support and comradeship to its neighbourhood and proving to have a positive impact.
— Creative HEAD

In just a four short years, we are proud as punch to have secured a place among the top 5 per cent of salons in Aberdeen. This award recognises us as a valuable part of the community, hosting regular events to support fellow local businesses, as well as launching loyalty initiatives to reward residents and clients.

It also highlights our consistent efforts to support other local small businesses and our passion for collaboration, such as our lonstanding relationship with Gray’s School of Art – one of the oldest established fine art institutions in Scotland. The judges commended us for our forward-thinking ideas and faultless execution in delivering ventures that rally community spirit.

The IT List

Celebrating an incredible 10 years in 2019, The It List, presented by influential industry magazine Creative HEAD and exclusively sponsored by hairdressing CoolBrand ghd, presents six contemporary titles to hair professionals aged 30 and under who are carving out an exciting future for themselves. The win can be career-changing – previous winners can now be found styling the likes of Kim Kardashian and Jessica Chastain, working on fashion shoots for Vogue and marie claire and collaborating with global brands including Chanel and Celine.

Leading names from hair, fashion and the media judged this year’s It List entries, including designer Louise Gray, Vogue journalist Jessica Bumpus and Cassie Steer, who writes for Sunday Times Style and Stylist. Little Mix’s hairdresser Aaron Carlo, session stylist Anna Cofone, who works with Dua Lipa and Lana Del Rey, and top salon owners Luke Hersheson and Adam Reed also deliberated over the final chosen.

The Entrepreneur

Jenn was crowned the winner of The Entrepreneur - a prestigious title given to someone under the age of thirty who shows excellence in opening, running and growing a business.

With the support of her business partner Joanna McDonald, Jenn’s innovative thinking and commercial awareness has seen the business soar. Within the first year, the salon had already smashed projected profits three times over! Now, Jenn leads a staff of 29. The judges were blown away by this ambitious young entrepreneur, with one panel member exclaiming “hats off, you are a force of nature and a true entrepreneur – no stone unturned, no mountain too high!
— Creative HEAD
I didn’t expect this. Thank you so much. I want to thank my business partner Jaye for putting up with me!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last four years.
— Jenn Linton
What Jenn has accomplished at Linton & Mac is astonishing. Despite incredible competition in Aberdeen, she has guided the salon to become one of the most sought after in the area. Unique concepts and collaborations continue to evolve the salon’s direction and it has built an impressive team of 29 – all in just four years.

Truly remarkable.

Fresh, forward-thinking, determined to succeed… just a few of the traits Sarah Black of Aberdeen salon Linton & Mac has proven she possesses by making it onto The It List, a nationwide competition that recognises the best emerging talent in UK and Irish hairdressing.

Sarah’s exceptional skill and fresh approach have led to her beating off four formidable finalists to win The It Girl title, awarded to a young hair professional excelling in multiple areas of work and destined for greatness.
— Creative HEAD
I genuinely did not expect this! I’m so happy to be a part of everything. Thank you to Creative HEAD for an evening to reflect on everything we’re really proud of. I’m so blessed to be around so many talented, inspiring people all the time.
— Sarah Black
Sarah Black has got it! She has a distinct purpose driving her career, whether she’s educating, doing salon work, shoots or building her profile. She isn’t aiming to follow; she’s diversifying, breaking out, challenging opinions and that’s what makes her our It Girl of 2019. A true inspiration for young hairdressers looking to carve out a meaningful and satisfying career in this industry.

We opened the doors of LINTON & MAC four years ago AGAINST ALL ODDS - they said it would work in the current economic climate - they said it would never be as big as we dreamt..... AGAINST ALL ODDS we thrived, creating 29 jobs and becoming an integral part of our community - we KNOW that there’s more to Aberdeen than just oil!!

We pledged to do all we could to support other small businesses in the city - and that is something that is still at the heart of our business plan. We think the people of Aberdeen are pretty special and we salute you… so to bring home the BEST LOCAL SALON award, just makes us so happy!!

We have all read Creative HEAD magazine religiously for years!! To be recognised with a shortlis, up there with some of the biggest icons in the industry is UNREAL - but to actually win... is out of this world.
— Jaye, Jenn & Sarah
